Indonesia is shifting its capital away from Jakarta, to Nusantara.
An ambitious $32.5 billion dollar project will move Indonesia’s capital from the overcrowded, polluted and sinking Jakarta to a sparsely populated area on Borneo. The president chose the new city’s name โ Nusantara, a Javanese name for the Indonesian archipelago.
That unexpected change benefits the registrant of the domain name Nusantara.com, registered in 1996.
Currently, Nusantara.com serves as the homepage of Peter Schoppert, Director at NUS Press in Singapore. Mr. Schoppert lists these specialties in his bio:
High-value strategic communications; public policy discussions in Asia; business, academic, and art publishing; internet, mobile and trans-media strategies; developing new publishing business models.
Nusantara is a popular name in Singapore and it would create an interesting “conflict” between Indonesia and Singapore.
Would that domain become the “apple of discord” between the two countries? ๐
