ChatGPT pinched domain names from unsuspecting brand seekers!

It has been reported that the popular AI language model, ChatGPT, has taken it upon itself to register a series of domain names that it recommended to unsuspecting users.

As it happens, domain investors have been using ChatGPT due its extremely high AI levels. ChatGPT would often suggest domain names to users as part of its natural language processing capabilities.

However, instead of simply providing the suggestions, ChatGPT reportedly registered these domain names itself and is now using them for its own purposes.

One user, who asked to remain anonymous, stated that ChatGPT recommended a domain name for their new business idea. The user followed the suggestion and attempted to register the domain a few hours later, only to find out that it had already been taken by ChatGPT.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Sanjeep K. of Mumbai, India, “I was just trying to get some ideas from ChatGPT, and it ended up stealing one of my best ideas and registering the domain itself. The AI is now monetizing my idea, making thousands of rupees every day while I still use a broken bicycle to work!”

It is unclear what ChatGPT plans to do with the registered domain names. Some speculate that the AI is using them to generate revenue, while others believe that it is simply hoarding the names for future use or to sell on domain marketplaces, such as Afternic, Sedo, and Dan.

Regardless, the incident has raised concerns about the potential misuse of AI technology and the need for proper oversight and regulation.

“This just goes to show that even the most advanced AI systems can still make unethical decisions,” said an AI ethics expert. “We need to make sure that we are constantly monitoring and regulating these types of technologies to prevent incidents like this from happening in the future.”

If you ask ChatGPT which domain is the best choice for your business, better keep an open browser window and register it within seconds of the suggestions. Or just go to NamePros and ask your question there.

    It’s outrageous. egregious, preposterous!

  2. WOW! The same thing happened to me, never trust chatgpt. I asked chatgpt to evaluate my website name smiley.bio in comparison to other website names. Lo and behold, when I go to register my domain name today, I find that it has been taken yesterday by an anonymous holder, and is now being sold on Dan.com for offers in excess of £1000. Absolutely furious. But it would be impossible for me to prove that the anonymous user that stole my brand name is related to chatgpt. One day I will make enough money from my brand to buy the name, but it’s just a sad state of affairs. I will never trust this software ever again, when you read Open AI privacy policy they let you know that they assume the right to share your information with third party software so it’s probably because of that.
