Ascension.com: Trademark registration application hints of a domain sale

The operators of the  domain name Ascension.com have filed for the registration of the matching mark, ASCENSION.COM.

Filed by NY-based Genvid Holdings, Inc., the trademark application with the USPTO was filed with an “intend to use” clause for the following services:

  • Entertainment services, namely, the provision of continuing programs about gaming delivered by live streaming of audio, visual and audiovisual material and data via a global computer network.
  • Software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for streaming audio, visual and audiovisual material and data; software as a service (SAAS) services featuring software for streaming of video games, sports and other audiovisual material and for enabling interaction between streamers and audience members.

Registered in 1997, the  domain name Ascension.com appears to have changed ownership on or around Jun 29, 2022. The domain name does not resolve, currently and no DNS change has taken place in recent years. Ascension.com has been parked with PPC ads most of its life.

Other than its generic meaning of rising to an important position or a higher level, Ascension (island) is one of three islands in the St. Helena U.K. Overseas Territory: St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. Its ccTLD is .ac.

Applying for the registration of matching marks is an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
