Dunkin Donuts : Company rebranding to Dunkin’ with a #DNKN flavor

Dunkin Donuts, America’s popular coffee and doughnut shop is rebranding itself to Dunkin’.

The company announced the news today, with Dunkin Donuts CMO stating:

“Our new name is simpler, shorter and more modern, while still embracing our rich heritage by retaining the familiar pink and orange colors and iconic font that were introduced in 1973. It also speaks to the breadth of our product offerings. We’re all about serving great coffee fast.

But we’re also about donuts and baked goods and breakfast sandwiches. All delivered at the speed of Dunkin’.

And while donuts may no longer appear in our logo, we remain committed to serving our signature donuts and will continue to offer new and seasonal varieties to delight donut lovers everywhere. There is no Dunkin’ without donuts!”

That being said, the domain Dunkin.com is in the hands of another registrant, as George Kirikos pointed out.

Registered in 1996, the domain is not used in any way related to Dunkin Donuts products and services. Its owners should anticipate a windfall, if they were ever interested in selling the domain. It’d be incomprehensible for Dunkin Donuts – now Dunkin – to not acquire the matching .com of their corporate name and brand.

Dunkin Donuts would have to really open its corporate wallet, as the founder of DunkinWorks is named Tim Dunkin!

Meanwhile, Dunkin Donuts has applied for several trademarks for DUNKIN and DNKN; the latter, as a .com (DNKN.com) has been in the hands of Dunkin Donuts for a while.

It seems that Dunkin Donuts rebranding to Dunkin is not a gimmick, like IHOP did. 😀
