HosterStats, a long-standing authority on facts and figures related to domains and web sites, has published some interesting metrics about the development status of various gTLDs.
Despite claims of ongoing development of XYZ domains into active web sites, a very low adoption rate is demonstrated by the HosterStats figures; currently only 1% of XYZ domains are hosted on distinct IP’s – something that’d signify independent development.
In fact, 85% of these “developed” XYZ web sites, match an IP in the Virgin Islands, which belongs to the Domain Name Sales parking page. These domains should therefore be discounted as “parked”, and not developed.
In comparison, 25% of .photos domains are developed, with 2681 unique IPs across a total 10696 registrations. Dot .guru domains top the diversity chart, with 6689 unique IP addresses across 56943 registrations.
