How the “for sale” domain FamilyLocator.com led to a bad review for Dan

Dan reviews are often left by individuals that meant to review another service. Quite often, a domain listed for sale at Dan.com matches a product or a service offered by a company that does not use the .com.

In the case of FamilyLocator.com, the domain has been “continuously registered since 2002” and its registrant has listed it for sale at Dan; the asking price is 12900 euro.

But there is a Find my phone app, produced by a company called Family Locator LLC. They appear to operate from the domain Family-Locator.com which was registered in 2015 in the republic of Slovakia.

So what is the issue?

A recent review of Dan.com at Trustpilot is negative, for reasons unrelated to Dan:

Why is this family locator app ,trying to deduct money from my account….and charging me fees because im reversing your debit…i did not authorize this…Familylocator.com is a fraudulent

Of course, FamilyLocator.com is not fraudulent, as it’s not linked to the app in any way. Disgruntled users often leave reviews on the first obvious culprit, the exact match .com.
