Kodak goes down but its numerous Domain Names are still up

Kodak, the legendary film and camera manufacturer, filed for Chapter 11 earlier today; another corporate victim of the bad economy.

The makers of camera film and numerous other quality products, produced the necessary materials for several generations of photographers and hobbyists alike.

Founded by George Eastman in 1892, Kodak became synonymous with action photography through its “Kodak moment” phrase.

While Chapter 11 proceedings ensue, Kodak maintains a large number of domains as its fleet of online assets.

According to top domain research tool, ZFBot, there are 88 domains owned by Kodak – and numerous trademark violations squatted upon by domain speculators – an example of a squatted domain is KodakMoment.com

  4. Louis Capece says:

“…victim of the bad economy”? ..the least of kodak’s downfall

  5. Bob says:

Er, Lucius, Polaroid was a separate (albeit also now bankrupt) company. Polaroid was based in Cambridge Mass founded by Edwin Land, Kodak was based in Rochester NY and was founded by George Eastman, father of Linda (Eastman) McCartney, Paul the Beatle’s wife.

Both Kodak and Polaroid had instant film products but Polaroid successfully sued Kodak for patent infringement in the 90’s and received north of $1B USD in a settlement.

  6. Lucius "Gunz" Fabrice says:

Bob – You are correct, the polaroid reference was made in jest 😀

  7. Bob says:

    Oh, never mind…..

  8. Lucius "Gunz" Fabrice says:

    Bob – No worries 😀
