Great news for Dean Vlahos, legitimate owner of the domain CCT.com – it has been returned to his possession, and it has been transferred back to Network Solutions.
CCT.com had been reported stolen in mid December, and had been transferred to Ename.com, a domain registrar popular with domain thieves in China.
It is almost certain that the return of CCT.com involved some form of legal action, as Ename is known to be extremely uncooperative with requests to return domain names that have been stolen.
Ename also operates a domain auction venue where domains are being sold.
The proliferation of domain theft in 2014 reached unprecedented heights, due to an ICANN-mandated requirement for Registrars to verify accounts; the mandate created a streamlined process that involved the use of phishing emails, used to hijack domain names.
Recent returns of stolen domains include MLA.com and a group of numeric domains. Both cases involved the assistance of domain lawyers and the filing of lawsuits.
