There’s a domain storm brewing during the past few days over an apparent breach of WHOIS privacy records at Moniker, involving a single domain.
Rick Schwartz broke the news and then all hell broke loose.
It seems that many domainers have failed to understand the message that the domain king is attempting to deliver through his post and they downplayed the incident – since it only involved one domain – while others commented on the principle, thus sharing Rick Schwartz’s opinion that the perpetrator – a Moniker employee – must be either named by Moniker or “man up” and come forward:
“I was really hoping that Moniker would come forward. Oversee would come forward. Somebody would come forward and relieve ME of this.”
Rick Schwartz stated his reasons behind this “whistle blowing” and warned that the name will be revealed by end of day on Monday, if none of the above happens:
“I did my duty as I see it and now let the chips fall where they may. When this comes in the open I can excuse myself from this conversation. I did what I believed was right and if folks have an issue with that then direct them in the proper direction. Their own values! I will post the names here at COB Monday if those that should come forward do not.”
So it looks as if it is going to be an eventful return to business after the New Year’s weekend; let’s hope that common sense will prevail and a satisfactory solution is found. We do not need yet another “Halvarez scandal“.
