DomainGang rebranding: A tribute to GoDaddy and Yahoo!

After almost four years of displaying a boring logo that meant very little to our readers, DomainGang is rebranding.

Myself, the CEO, and two buxom interns, we rolled up our sleeves and dove into the trenches to redesign our logo, right this very weekend. And we did it!

From the get-go, it was a plan to introduce an 80’s nostalgia, hence the use of hard-chiseled fonts and the imagery of Steven Seagal, an iconic figure of action movies. He might not be able to do the splits, but he’s macho and assertive – just like DomainGang.

We knew we wanted a logo that reflected DomainGang – whimsical, yet sophisticated. Modern, fresh and with the exclamation point angled at exactly 8.5 degrees to the right.

Now, keep in mind that on a personal level, we love brands, logos, banners, design, colors, rainbows, unicorns, flares and clustered bevels – particularly, when all of them are combined in Photoshop, at the same time.

We think that Adobe produced some incredible software over the years, despite their crappy idea to switch to cloud based products. The fact is, that we aren’t pros, but we know enough to be dangerous.

It was hard to design this logo using Optima, because no other font has these elusive “scallops” on top, and we didn’t want to use serif fonts as they appear antiquated. But I think we did it, and the two buxom interns agreed to my choice of a logo. After all, I am the CEO.

A corporate party with drinks followed, but I can’t disclose how much I paid these two beauties that contributed to the new design. 😉

I think we nailed it. Steven Seagal would be proud for this comeback from obscurity. The logo will remain for a few days in place, as this is all a joke about the GoDaddy and Yahoo! redesigns. But all the same, it’s good to have a change once in a while. 😀

The new DomainGang logo.
