Sailor Gutzler: Amazing 7 year old’s domain name gets squatted

Sailor Gutzler, a 7 year old girl that made headlines by surviving a plane crash that killed her parents, sister and cousin, was described in the news as a “true miracle.

The wounded girl walked out of the crashed plane and more than three quarters of a mile on rough terrain, in the cold winter night of Kentucky, towards the light of a farmhouse, where she was rescued.

Her survival is miraculous. Her name, is unique.

Sure enough, domain squatters hiding behind WHOIS shield at GoDaddy, have registered her full name, and SailorGutzler.com is now taken. The domain name was available in the first few hours after the accident was reported; we did check DomainTools at the time.

There is no doubt that facing such a heavy loss of life, there is no way that a member of the Gutzler family, who perished when their small plane crashed on its way back from Florida, would take time away from their mourning to register a domain name.

It’s a shame, that a 7 year old girl’s name gets squatted by someone willing to cash in on the miraculous and painful experience that would leave its marks for a lifetime.

Sailor Gutzler has ahead of her an entire life to recover from the family loss, and she will make it with the assistance and love of her immediate family.

Meanwhile, being a domain squatter of this domain name is definitely a hefty source of bad karma.

At a domainer’s xmas drinks i met a newbie “namebroker” who explained to me he was going register Lindt and sell it to the chocolate company, i then went on to explain all reason’s why that was a bad move, at the time the hostage siege in a lindt cafe in sydney was happening. This guy could only see money …..ummm

Still need more transparency in the industry IMO ~
No one likes being spammed via open whois – but things like this make me think
there shouldn’t be privacy at all. Scum …

One of the biggest names in the domain industry once owned (maybe still does) famous general known as Storming Norman ‘s name in the .com, no one ever said anything about it. All squatting is bad, but it seems that you guys only critizise those not in the circle.

James – Storming Norman, an old fart jar head, is the same as a 7 year old orphan? I don’t think so.

You prove my point DGang, you come out defending this guy so you know who he is, or are you saying he is not as scummy as the guy who registered this 7 year old girl’s name?

James – Let’s see… Adult public person’s name versus orphaned 7 year old survivor’s name who’s scarred for life. Hmm, I think the choice is obvious.

While cybersquatting people’s names is unacceptable, you’re comparing apples to oranges.
