Shock and awe: Dot .Tel lost 12% of its registrations in 2014

Dot .Tel, the TLD devised to confuse developers and investors alike, as one cannot do much with it, is shrinking in numbers.

In March 2012 there were just under 300k dot .Tel domains registered, despite a jump from 243,000 domains in August 2010.

Dot .tel, the rotten tomato of TLDs.

Apparently, registrar promotions and the opening of all-digit .tel domains didn’t help with this eunuch TLD that was destined to somehow substitute directories and phone numbers.

The number of dot .Tel domains dropped 12.29% in January 2014, bringing the total number of dot .Tel domains down to an all time low of 187,022 domains – according to current data from HosterStats.

Ouch!
