I have a Question for you Elliot …

Earlier today, I wasn’t feeling too well.

Naturally, I’d call my doctor or even my mom but for some reason I decided to dial Elliot Silver’s phone number.

Elliot’s known to be among the most helpful domainers around. This time, however, he let the number ring a dozen times.

“What do you want, Lucius? I’m busy”, said Elliot.

“Hey man, I don’t feel too well. I think something’s wrong with me.” – I coughed twice for emphasis. I needed help.

“Lucius. I’m right in the middle of launching DomainQuestions.com and I’m getting ready to send out a press release. What’s so hard to understand?”

Elliot was truly busy but I needed help.

“Elliot, sorry dude. You have to help me. If I have a pain on the right side of my tummy could it be appendicitis?”

It was clear that Elliot wasn’t too happy with my persistence.

“Lucius, I have no idea. But I can answer your domain questions though. Did you know Bandit Berkens is the name of Mike Berkens’s dog? Did you know that the oldest domain ever registered was a .com but the oldest reserved domain is a .net?”

I sighed with exasperation.

“Look Elliot, I know about Mike’s dog and all. It’s just that I’m afraid of getting scary answers from my doctor.”

“Lucius, there’s nothing scary about getting answers to questions. With DomainQuestions.com you can ask a question about the revenue trends in .org domains for the past 18 months and someone will answer it. It’s information we all like to share!”

“I get it now, Elliot. So you think my appendicitis is too much information? I am desperate, there is a slight swelling and it’s tender to the touch.”

“Lucius, for the last time: go to DomainQuestions.com and ask your question, but it has to be domain related. That’s what I do now – I’m not a doctor!”

So Elliot wasn’t focused on my problem right now. That truly hurt. But I decided to give it a try and promised him I’d go visit his web site.

Within five minutes I had signed up for free and asked my question. A few minutes of browsing later, my pain was gone. Apparently, it was yet another case of “domainia nervosa” – the anxiety building up before a NameJet auction ends.

I know, as “BullboMD” answered my question at DomainQuestions.com

That is patently false… had you really called me, I would have told you to spray yourself with some Windex and your ailments would have disappeared 😉

You can’t be so modest, Elliot. I tried the Windex treatment as you suggested and it worked! 😀

I have a pretty silly question. I am not a domainer and wonder whether there is a bright line distinction between domainers and those who buy domains and develop them/flip them. I wonder why people get into flipping (another silly question), but whether they are just looking to park it, lease it, or develop it with a short or long term view of re-selling, would the basic strategy be the same when looking at the relevant considerations?

Adele – there is no clear line between “professional” and “part-time” domainers, that essentially perform the same functions with varying success.

    But that’s a question to ask at DomainQuestions.com 😀

appendicitis is very serious, you should always consult a physician about such matters and not your domain answering service, dr’s dont so domains, domains should not do internal medicine, otherwise, the FDA and the AMA would already have a web site for that, and they dont, or do they?( I’ll be back after asking Elliot)
