The domain name WAN.com – a term that means “playing games” in Chinese – was reportedly sold for $800,000 dollars to online games giant, Changyou. The transaction appears to have completed at the end of December 2013.
According to Changyou.com:
“Changyou.com (NASDAQ: CYOU) is a leading developer and operator of online games in China as measured by the popularity of our games […] We engage in the development, operation and licensing of online games, including MMOGs, which are interactive online games that may be played simultaneously by hundreds of thousands of game players, and web games, which are played over the Internet using a web browser. We also own and operate the 17173.com Website, one of the leading game information portals in China, that has an experienced team with strong expertise in running the Website, building a game community and developing relationships with advertisers in the online game industry.”
WAN.com was sold in the past in a private transaction that presumably exceeded $600,000; the Chinese buyers held the domain name for a year before it was resold to Changyou.

According to the news source, Changyou announced that its brower-based game portals will be transferred to WAN.com as of January 24th, an indication that the company will focus on building a single portal for its entire gamut of browser-based games.

Good catch. I can verify much of that info. I was part of first sale but not sure who gave you the $600K number. Only Andrew and a few others know the real price. Maybe you were going on the original sale at Godaddy that didn’t go through.
