Will Whiskey.com sell for more than $3.1 million dollars?

Good, aged whiskey is reserved for those special occasions that you want to celebrate a large domain sale.

But don’t take our word for it; the Castello brothers hit a home run with the $3.1 million dollar sale of Whisky.com a few months ago.

Following on the footsteps of that sale, the alternately spelled Whiskey.com is now available for fans of the drink and domainers alike; the Flippa listing has a moderate high bid of $45,000 dollars currently.

Considering how “Whiskey” produces no typo in most spellers, and slightly higher Google results – 86 million versus 83 million for “whisky” – the sale of Whiskey.com is almost certain, as long as reserve is met.

Whiskey.com is 20 years old, having been registered in 1994; whether served chilled, on the rocks or straight, this aged domain should sell easily. 😀

Check out the Flippa listing and let us know what you think it’d sell for.

What happened with Banana.com?? I thought we were going to get details on that deal. 🙂

Great domain, but no it won’t sell anywhere near as high as whisky.com.

Mainly because of market size. Only two countries in the world use the spelling with an ‘e’ (albeit America and Ireland are large producers), the rest of the world uses the ‘whisky’ spelling. See here for an explanation: http://www.worldwhisky.com/whisky-101/whats-in-a-name-whisky-or-whiskey/

Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskeys are big business though, and Irish Whiskey is experiencing a revival, so still a top notch…

Luke – To be honest, I had never heard of the “whisky” spelling before the great .com sale by the Castello brothers. Regardless of market size in terms of consumption, the identification of the product is primarily spelled as “whiskey” in the US where most commonly consumed brands are produced.

I think I need a “scotch” after this.

  4. Luke says:

Well that ‘Scotch’ will have ‘Scotch WHISKY’ on the label!

I still own about 150 liquor domains, many of which are whisky/whiskey related. I’ve tracked that market for quite a long time, so I’m pretty confident that it won’t get even close to the whisky.com price tag.

PS: your character limit is annoying, it chopped out the last word in my previous comment! 😛

Oh and let’s not forget that whiskey.com sold for $185,000 in 2009 (and yes I know times change, prices go up etc)

  6. DomainGang says:

Luke – You can view the character counter updating as you type, the limit was added to combat spam.

Looks like bidding on Whiskey.com is up to $60,000 currently.

  7. Top.Beer is up for auction at Flippa as we speak…

  8. blah says:

I predict $150.000 – $250,000 it’s not that special of a domain, but it is a good domain ( I would take it off course ) but not worth over a million for sure.

  9. Luke says:

Ended at $170,000 (unsold). Less than it sold for last time in 2009. Results speak loud than words and this validates the points I made previously 😉
