News of the sale of Wind.com for allegedly “mid six figures” shows how important it is for the seller to not rush a sale.
For several weeks, the domain was brokered by Lumis, that did an extensive marketing promotion for Wind.com, and offered it first at $1.25 million dollars, and then at $500,000 USD.
Since the sale of Voice.com for $30 million, many owners of premium domain portfolios are holding back on offers, even increasing their asking prices.
In the case of Wind.com, it seems that the seller blew a good amount of cash away from the proverbial table. According to our sources, the domain was part of a domain partnership. Regarding its exact selling price to a buyer from China, it was less than half a million dollars.
That comes to show that timing is everything, and domain sales of premium domains at peak value can be undermined by a need to cash in, in order to move the capital to other investments.
Congratulations to the broker James Booth and the lucky buyer as well.

Really? You missed the opportunity to use “Passing Wind.com”?

The domain was bought by an investor. I’m going to guess for around $200k but who knows.
Great to hear your industry opinion. Thanks for your blog!
At approx’ $400k, I would say that it seems like a win for both. The buyer might have a better investment that needs cash now but is expecting higher returns. Hopefully buyer and seller are winners 🙂
If it was acquired less than half a million dollars, I would say the buyer is extremely lucky.
It is a multi-millions domain name.
