No Domain or Trademark: Starbucks launches new product size

31 ounces of iced coffee or tea - that's the new Starbucks Trenta

I’ll start by saying that no matter how much I dislike the Starbucks quality of coffee versus the home brew, it’s still drinkable when one is on the go.

Keep in mind also that many consider the recent change of the Starbucks logo an “epic failure”. Starbucks did nothing more than resize the already existing “mermaid” and dropped the company name from it as well.

That’s some weak java right there.

The latest “faux pas” by Starbucks appears to be their introduction of a new product size: the Trenta.

Trenta is the latest addition to the existing range of cup sizes and at 31 ounces it’s overpriced as well!

For reference, McDonalds currently sells 32 ounce sweet tea “cups” for $1, all while the Starbucks Trenta sells for $3.30 (iced coffee) and the iced tea for $2.60.

Whoah, if only that were the only problem.

Starbucks does not hold a “Trenta” trademark nor has applied for one yet.

But to make things worse, the domain name Trenta.com – registered and parked by someone other than Starbucks, obviously – will enjoy a hefty spike in traffic for the weeks and months to come.

Whoever has Trenta.co will also see a spike in traffic. People are wooing over this .CO TLD so why didnt Starbucks register that before the launch? You KNOW people are going to be typing it in – its what they do nowadays.

The trenta.co parked page even shows coffee-related items. Smart marketing from someone with their ear to the ground. If Starbucks wants the .me, last I looked it was available. But the .CO is probably better than the .ME Someone is going to make some $$$

Mike – Good point. After all, we all know .co stands for coffee ! 😀

It’s easy to say why Starbucks did not register it; 1. They are stupid. 2; They are not domainers.

@Lucius: that is an angle that I didnt catch! 😉
