The Federal Bureau of Investigation is very busy dealing with cybercriminals, and often invite capable individuals to apply for the job.
In a case of remarkable bureaucratic slip-up, they lost control of a key domain used in federal seizures.
CIRFU.net, a domain that stood as an acronym for the FBI Cyber Initiative and Resource Fusion Unit, was let to expire in April.
The GoDaddy registration was snapped up by a domain investor based in Gibraltar; the end result is that the implementation of zero click monetization delivers a whole lot of malware ads as well.
All the domains that used CIRFU.net as their nameservers are affected, including the notorious MegaUpload.com of Kim Dot Com:
- hdmegaporn.com
- mageclick.com
- megaclick.com
- megaclick.us
- megaclicks.co
- megarotic.com
- megaupload.org
- megavideoclips.com
- megavkdeo.com
- megaworld.com
- megaworld.mobi
The lapse of the domain CIRFU.net is rather embarrassing for the FBI, and as they control these aforementioned domains they should change the DNS soon. For the full story, click here.
