Domains NOT to register: Any “Microsoft” domain

microsoft-godaddy

Microsoft domains on GoDaddy Auctions.

Whether you are a Microsoft fan and appreciate its products, such as Windows, Office etc., there is no excuse to go after registering domains that contain its famous trademarks.

Even if you give yourself the excuse of being a loyal fan, and want to set up a blog or a review web site, those “noble” ideas alone don’t authorize you to incorporate the Microsoft trademark into a domain.

Corporations register and enforce the protection of their marks; domain names that contain such marks can easily lead to the filing of the UDRP process.

Today’s example of blatant violations that demonstrate domains not to register, is a bunch of “Microsoft” domains that can be found on GoDaddy Auctions.

The truth of the matter: Microsoft doesn’t really care.

Months ago, I reported to both Microsoft and Go Daddy a scammer operating as MicrosoftRescue [dot] com, offering “services” to “clean” your computer of viruses, blah, blah, blah.

Go Daddy said there wasn’t enough proof, and Microsoft simply responded that, yeah, this “appeared” to be a scam site and to just avoid it, but, basically, they planned to do nothing about it. The scammer site is still in operation.

So, go ahead: squat away on Microsoft brands.

Perhaps they’ll eventually wake up and protect their brand.
