Lasani Brands Inc., operators of the domain Lasani.com, have applied for the registration of the matching mark, LASANI.COM, with the USPTO.
The “intent to use” application involves “on-line wholesale and retail store services featuring clothes, shoes and accessories.”
The domain Lasani.com was acquired from NameFind, the GoDaddy-owned repository of domains.
The transaction most likely took place during the final week of 2021. The domain was registered in 2001 and was acquired by NameFind as part of the Vertical Axis portfolio acquisition by GoDaddy.
Why was LASANI.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?
It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We report on these applications, and so far several have been decided upon.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
