SpeechTherapy.com LLC, operators of the premium domain name, SpeechTherapy.com, have applied for the registration of the matching mark.
The mark consists of a creative design of a thought or text bubble to the left of the wording SPEECHTHERAPY.COM. It’s an “intent to use” application, indicating that the mark has not seen commercial use yet. After all, the domain name SpeechTherapy.com is under construction.
Registered in 1996, SpeechTherapy.com appears to have been in the possession of a single registrant, for the past 10 years at a minimum. In 2019, the domain was parked at Sedo with a PPC lander.
The domain SpeechTherapy.com changed hands on or around April 6, 2021, with the current registrant becoming Dallas Reading and Language Services. The company operates from the domain name SpeechTherapyDallas.com, in which case the upgrade made total sense. The domains are hosted on the same web host services provider currently. SpeechTherapy.com has its own Facebook page, further connecting the two entities.
There is no public record of how much SpeechTherapy.com sold for but for a premium domain name such as this we’d expect six figures to be the price range.
Why was the domain name SpeechTherapy.com applied for as a trademark with the USPTO?
It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
