In 2016, Mike Mann was served with a UDRP notice for the domain name DollarCity.com.
A central America based company called “Dollar City” filed the UDRP when DollarCity.com was listed for sale, with a $64,888 dollar price.
As expected, Mike Mann won the UDRP with a Reverse Domain Name Hijacking finding, for this 2001 domain registration that he owned for a decade.
Mike’s next move was simply brilliant: He jacked up the price to $99,888 dollars! 😀
Fast forward two years, and Mike Mann announced this week that DollarCity.com was acquired by the former Complainant, for the sum of $90,000 dollars. That’s almost a 30% mark-up on the initial price for the domain!
Hopefully there’s some money left on the DollarCity budget to redesign their visual identity, as it looks terribly dated.
