A domainer from snow-covered Buffalo, NY, defeated all odds on Thursday afternoon, winning a premium domain auction on NameJet.
Thomas Shovel, a native of Buffalo, invests in domain names and was expecting the final countdown of a NameJet auction, right as the first of several feet of snow came down through an opening in his roof.
“Thirty minutes before the NameJet auction was ending, I hear this horrific noise, and my living room filled with snow as the roof caved in,” said Thomas Shovel.
“I had to dig a tunnel with a large soup spoon through the kitchen, to get to my office room where the computer is. Took me 28 and a half minutes to make it!” exclaimed Shovel, rubbing us his frostbitten hands together.
After tunneling his way out of the snow, Shovel logged into his account with NameJet, placing a last minute bid that was unchallenged until the auction ended.
“I’m lucky to have trained with Boy Scouts when I was a kid, we had several survival classes back in the day,” added Thomas Shovel, smiling.
NameJet is one of several domain auction venues where high bids occur when the weather is nasty, according to a study that conducted independent research.
