Oktoberfest is one of the world’s largest and most famous beer festivals, traditionally held in Munich, Germany. It takes place in late September and continues into the first weekend of October, lasting for 16-18 days. Despite its name, a significant portion of Oktoberfest actually occurs in September! 🙂
The festival has its origins in a royal wedding celebration held in Munich in 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The citizens of Munich were invited to join in the festivities, which included horse races, parades, music, food, and of course, beer.
These days, the Oktoberfest grounds are filled with numerous beer tents and halls, each representing a different brewery, offering a variety of traditional Bavarian beers and food. Visitors can enjoy live music, traditional Bavarian clothing, amusement rides and a vibrant, festive atmosphere. Oktoberfest is not just a local event; it has become a global celebration of Bavarian culture, attracting people who visit to enjoy the beer, food, and camaraderie.
Oktoberfest takes place from September 16th to October 3rd, 2023. The event is ongoing and we’re certain that our friends at Sedo are already taking advantage of their relative proximity to Munich. The trip takes just about 6 hours so attending the opening weekend is a good idea.
