Rest in peace, Alexa.com.
Alexa was founded as an independent company in 1996 and acquired by Amazon in 1999 for $250 million dollars in stock. At its peak, Alexa provided web traffic data, global rankings, and other information for more than 30 million websites. More than 400 million people visited Alexa.com every month.
Amazon announced the closure of Alexa.com last year and as of May 1st the web site is officially closed, with a message:
End of Service Notice – We retired Alexa.com on May 1, 2022, after more than two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience. Thank you for making us your go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and so much more.
Oddly, the Alexa Blog is still up.
If you used Alexa metrics to evaluate domain names, you’ll have to find another traffic estimator.
