Yahoo! New logo loses serifs and brings back the 90’s

Yahoo! has a new logo as of yesterday, and we are not impressed.

The new Yahoo! logo retains the exclamation point and loses the serifs that were associated with the formerly top search engine, for years.

The font used is Optima, and while the primary color remains a deep violet, the logo loses its impact on the Yahoo! web site, due to its small size.

The new Yahoo! logo.

The new Yahoo! logo.

That’s right: in marketing and branding, size matters!

There is no doubt that the new Yahoo! logo looks great on the Yahoo! introduction of it, where it is displayed considerably larger.

Seriously, Yahoo! After spending billions of dollars in acquiring various companies you could have done so much better. 🙁

and I am sure they spend a fortune for that…

This is indeed most terrible. I don’t understand how big companies can spend big money and screw up something basic and yet so important as a logo.
