The operators of the aged, active domain name, Techies.com, have applied for a federal trademark registration at the USPTO.
Registered in 1999, the domain Techies.com is “the leading marketplace connecting high-quality tech talent with organizations needing interim help on projects using Amazon Web Services. “
The trademark application was filed in January 2021 by Minnesota based Techies LLC. The applicant claims as date of first use for the mark TECHIES.COM 1/1/2020. This indicates that the domain was sold by its previous registrant, Endurance International, around that time, or just before that.
WHOIS records show a change in registrant and registrar on July 7, 2019. There is no recorded sale at NameBio for the domain Techies.com.
The application is for TECHIES.COM and for the following services:
Employment hiring, recruiting, placement, staffing and career networking services
Why was TECHIES.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?
Itβs an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
