LeaklessMask.com : Trademark application at the #USPTO

The operators of the domain LeaklessMask.com have applied for the matching trademark with the USPTO, LEAKLESSMASK.COM.

The mark consists of geometric figures depicting a woman, a man, and two children wearing masks, located above the literal element “LeakLessMask.com”. These are the products the mark is applied for:
Face masks for use by dental care providers; Face masks for use by health care providers; Face coverings being sanitary masks for protection against viral infection; Face covers being sanitary masks for protection against viral infection; Protective face masks for medical use

Oddly, it appears that the domain Leaklessmask.com is parked at GoDaddy, instead of providing content that using the mark in commerce.

Surely when demonstrating use of a brand in products or services, the matching .com would be useful to display it! πŸ˜€

Why was LEAKLESSMASK.COM applied for as a trademark at the USPTO?

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.

Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.

As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.

Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
