Say, what’s the big idea?

Time for another editorial.

This way, perhaps, those that have been scratching their heads about the ‘multiple personalities’ of this electronic publication can relax.

DomainGang did not materialize overnight, it’s a projection of many years of active interaction on various online forums, and especially DNForum since late 2002.

That’s almost 10 years of active posting, which at some point I realized that were being lost among thousands of other comments, emoticons and often heated conversations.

So I needed an outlet specifically for the domain market.

DomainGang is not about “gag jokes” performed by the Three Stooges. There is no punch line; I will leave this to the all-American stand up comedians, and I’m not one.

Although I respect the Marx Brothers quite a lot, my sense of humor is definitely British. That’s how I was brought up, since the age of ten.

In a market that pretends to be international, not everyone understands or comprehends the fine lines of a joke. To “get it”, one needs to ignore the existence of it and simply ride along.

The purpose of parody is to make people think, not laugh.

If you’d rather laugh with something obvious, you’re a fan of comedy instead. Regardless, both comedy and parody are Greek inventions. The only thing ancient Greeks did not invent was misery. That’s a product of the modern West.

Lucius is me, and I am Lucius. That was clear from day one that I started this electronic, outrageous publication that has gathered a steady readership and many supporters and sponsors – I’m grateful for both.

Back to the domainer personalities that baffled some.

Father Domainicus – the soft-spoken domainer “slash” clergyman with a direct Internet connection to “Domain Lord” is a personification of the holier-than-thou domainers, abundant on forums and industry blogs.

The newly- introduced Daryl the Drunk Domainer is the rabid-mouthed personification of a domainer that has a lot of things to say; he simply lacks class. Think of Daryl as the server of “tough love’, the same way that Rick Schwartz is dishing out advice about pigeon domains.

There are other types of domainers, each one representing an entire group of people with varied vision, activities and role in the domain industry. If you haven’t read one of the early posts here, I strongly recommend reading The Various types of Domainer Species.

I know that even after this editorial, not everyone will be convinced; and that’s fine, because DomainGang is not a political party or a tabloid. The posts are written with the intention to entertain its writers first and then the rest of you.

Some of you are very kind to have left some really remarkable comments and even testimonials; it’s always nice to know that what is written on DomainGang finds a way to people’s minds and doesn’t just fall on deaf ears.

The domain industry possesses the diversity and charisma of other groups of professionals and entrepreneurs alike. It does not matter what you do, learn to be good at it and most important, know that there are always ways to improve.

With many thanks to Tia Wood – aka Giovanni ‘Crazee’ Mossolini – the only other non-invented article writer on DomainGang. She has contributed some humorous and inspiring posts and she’s always welcome to give more of her female perspective to the male-dominated domain industry.
