Slain toddler Caylee Anthony: Legal wrestling turns to Domains

Casey Anthony, mother of Caylee, is charged with murder.

Three years ago, Caylee Anthony was found dead; the main suspect due to neglect or potential intent is her mother, Casey Anthony.

While the Casey Anthony trial started last week with the jury selection, there is now a twist that will further polarize fans and foes alike.

The grandparents – George and Cindy Anthony – have applied for a trademark for the toddler’s name and for the phrase “Justice for Caylee”. This was done in order to prevent others from profiting from the loss of their grandchild.

But is this too late already?

A cease and desist letter was sent by the Orlando attorney of the grandparents to online store Cafepress, asking them to pull stores that sell merchandize with their grand-daughter’s likeness and to provide a detailed list of revenue.

Meanwhile, the domain names JusticeForCaylee.com as well as the .org are not owned nor operated by the Caylee Anthony family. In fact, JusticeForCaylee.com contains reference to opposing the family members’ attempt to wrestle away the domain and MySpace accounts.

A search at the USPTO turned up no such pending application; there is a chance that the application was made at State (Florida) level.

Either way, the prediction for the domains’ future appears to be quite tumultuous.
